١
Itha ashshamsu kuwwirat.
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]
٢
Wa-itha annujoomu inkadarat.
And when the stars fall, dispersing,
٣
Wa-itha aljibalu suyyirat.
And when the mountains are removed
٤
Wa-itha alAAisharu AAuttilat.
And when full-term she-camels are neglected
٥
Wa-itha alwuhooshu hushirat.
And when the wild beasts are gathered
٦
Wa-itha albiharu sujjirat.
And when the seas are filled with flame
٧
Wa-itha annufoosu zuwwijat.
And when the souls are paired
٨
Wa-itha almawoodatu su-ilat.
And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked
٩
Bi-ayyi thanbin qutilat.
For what sin she was killed
Wa-itha assuhufunushirat.
And when the pages are made public
Wa-itha assamao kushitat.
And when the sky is stripped away
Wa-itha aljaheemu suAAAAirat.
And when Hellfire is set ablaze
Wa-itha aljannatu ozlifat.
And when Paradise is brought near,
AAalimat nafsun ma ahdarat.
A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it].
Fala oqsimu bilkhunnas.
So I swear by the retreating stars -
١٦
Aljawari alkunnas.
Those that run [their courses] and disappear -
Wallayli itha AAasAAas.
And by the night as it closes in
Wassubhi ithatanaffas.
And by the dawn when it breathes
Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareem.
[That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger
Thee quwwatin AAinda theealAAarshi makeen.
[Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position],
MutaAAin thamma ameen.
Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy.
Wama sahibukum bimajnoon.
And your companion is not [at all] mad.
Walaqad raahu bilofuqialmubeen.
And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon.
Wama huwa AAala alghaybi bidaneen.
And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen.
Wama huwa biqawli shaytaninrajeem.
And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens].
Faayna tathhaboon.
So where are you going?
In huwa illa thikrun lilAAalameen.
It is not except a reminder to the worlds
Liman shaa minkum an yastaqeem.
For whoever wills among you to take a right course.
Wama tashaoona illa anyashaa Allahu rabbu alAAalameen.
And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds.
