بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ ١
La oqsimu biyawmi alqiyamat. I swear by the Day of Resurrection
وَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلنَّفۡسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ ٢
Wala oqsimu binnafsi allawwamat. And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].
أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجۡمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ ٣
Ayahsabu al-insanu allannajmaAAa AAithamah. Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?
بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُۥ ٤
Bala qadireena AAala annusawwiya bananah. Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.
بَلۡ يُرِيدُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ لِيَفۡجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ ٥
Bal yureedu al-insanu liyafjura amamah. But man desires to continue in sin.
يَسۡــَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ ٦
Yas-alu ayyana yawmu alqiyama. He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"
فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ ٧
Fa-itha bariqa albasar. So when vision is dazzled
وَخَسَفَ ٱلۡقَمَرُ ٨
Wakhasafa alqamar. And the moon darkens
وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ ٩
WajumiAAa ashshamsu walqamar. And the sun and the moon are joined,
يَقُولُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذٍ أَيۡنَ ٱلۡمَفَرُّ ١٠
Yaqoolu al-insanu yawma-ithinayna almafar. Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ ١١
Kalla la wazar. No! There is no refuge.
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقَرُّ ١٢
Ila rabbika yawma-ithinalmustaqar. To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.
يُنَبَّؤُاْ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ ١٣
Yunabbao al-insanu yawma-ithinbima qaddama waakhkhar. Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.
بَلِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٞ ١٤
Bali al-insanu AAala nafsihibaseera. Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,
وَلَوۡ أَلۡقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ ١٥
Walaw alqa maAAatheerah. Even if he presents his excuses.
لَا تُحَرِّكۡ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعۡجَلَ بِهِۦٓ ١٦
La tuharrik bihi lisanakalitaAAjala bih. Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an.
إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا جَمۡعَهُۥ وَقُرۡءَانَهُۥ ١٧
Inna AAalayna jamAAahu waqur-anah. Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.
فَإِذَا قَرَأۡنَٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعۡ قُرۡءَانَهُۥ ١٨
Fa-itha qara'nahu fattabiAAqur-anah. So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا بَيَانَهُۥ ١٩
Thumma inna AAalayna bayanah. Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].
كَلَّا بَلۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ ٢٠
Kalla bal tuhibboona alAAajila. No! But you love the immediate
وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ ٢١
Watatharoona al-akhira. And leave the Hereafter.
وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ نَّاضِرَةٌ ٢٢
Wujoohun yawma-ithin nadira. [Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٞ ٢٣
Ila rabbiha nathira. Looking at their Lord.
وَوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بَاسِرَةٞ ٢٤
Wawujoohun yawma-ithin basira. And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,
تَظُنُّ أَن يُفۡعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٞ ٢٥
Tathunnu an yufAAala bihafaqira. Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.
كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِيَ ٢٦
Kalla itha balaghati attaraqiy. No! When the soul has reached the collar bones
وَقِيلَ مَنۡۜ رَاقٖ ٢٧
Waqeela man raq. And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?"
وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡفِرَاقُ ٢٨
Wathanna annahu alfiraq. And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation
وَٱلۡتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ ٢٩
Waltaffati assaqu bilssaq. And the leg is wound about the leg,
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ ٱلۡمَسَاقُ ٣٠
Ila rabbika yawma-ithin almasaq. To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ ٣١
Fala saddaqa wala salla. And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed.
وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ٣٢
Walakin kaththaba watawalla. But [instead], he denied and turned away.
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ ٣٣
Thumma thahaba ila ahlihiyatamatta. And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride].
أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلَىٰ ٣٤
Awla laka faawla. Woe to you, and woe!
ثُمَّ أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلَىٰٓ ٣٥
Thumma awla laka faawla. Then woe to you, and woe!
أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ أَن يُتۡرَكَ سُدًى ٣٦
Ayahsabu al-insanu an yutrakasuda. Does man think that he will be left neglected?
أَلَمۡ يَكُ نُطۡفَةٗ مِّن مَّنِيّٖ يُمۡنَىٰ ٣٧
Alam yaku nutfatan min manayyin yumna. Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةٗ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ ٣٨
Thumma kana AAalaqatan fakhalaqafasawwa. Then he was a clinging clot, and [ Allah ] created [his form] and proportioned [him]
فَجَعَلَ مِنۡهُ ٱلزَّوۡجَيۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰٓ ٣٩
FajaAAala minhu azzawjayni aththakarawal-ontha. And made of him two mates, the male and the female.
أَلَيۡسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحۡـِۧيَ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ ٤٠
Alaysa thalika biqadirin AAalaan yuhyiya almawta. Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
