١
Alhaqqa.
The Inevitable Reality -
٢
Ma alhaqqa.
What is the Inevitable Reality?
٣
Wama adraka ma alhaqqa.
And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?
٤
Kaththabat thamoodu waAAadun bilqariAAa.
Thamud and 'Aad denied the Striking Calamity.
٥
Faamma thamoodu faohlikoo bittaghiya.
So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].
٦
Waamma AAadun faohlikoo bireehinsarsarin AAatiya.
And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind
٧
Sakhkharaha AAalayhim sabAAa layalinwathamaniyata ayyamin husooman fataraalqawma feeha sarAAa kaannahum aAAjazunakhlin khawiya.
Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
٨
Fahal tara lahum min baqiya.
Then do you see of them any remains?
٩
Wajaa firAAawnu waman qablahu walmu'tafikatubilkhati-a.
And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.
FaAAasaw rasoola rabbihim faakhathahumakhthatan rabiya.
And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].
Inna lamma taghaalmao hamalnakum fee aljariya.
Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship
LinajAAalaha lakum tathkiratanwataAAiyaha othunun waAAiya.
That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.
Fa-itha nufikha fee assoorinafkhatun wahida.
Then when the Horn is blown with one blast
Wahumilati al-ardu waljibalufadukkata dakkatan wahida.
And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow -
Fayawma-ithin waqaAAati alwaqiAAa.
Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur,
Wanshaqqati assamaofahiya yawma-ithin wahiya.
And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.
Walmalaku AAala arja-ihawayahmilu AAarsha rabbika fawqahum yawma-ithin thamaniya.
And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].
Yawma-ithin tuAAradoona latakhfa minkum khafiya.
That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.
Faamma man ootiya kitabahubiyameenihi fayaqoolu haomu iqraoo kitabiyah.
So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!
Innee thanantu annee mulaqinhisabiyah.
Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."
Fahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiya.
So he will be in a pleasant life -
Fee jannatin AAaliya.
In an elevated garden,
Qutoofuha daniya.
Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.
Kuloo washraboo hanee-an bimaaslaftum fee al-ayyami alkhaliya.
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."
Waamma man ootiya kitabahubishimalihi fayaqoolu ya laytanee lam oota kitabiyah.
But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record
Walam adri ma hisabiyah.
And had not known what is my account.
Ya laytaha kanati alqadiya.
I wish my death had been the decisive one.
Ma aghna AAannee maliyah.
My wealth has not availed me.
Halaka AAannee sultaniyah.
Gone from me is my authority."
Khuthoohu faghullooh.
[ Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him.
Thumma aljaheema sallooh.
Then into Hellfire drive him.
Thumma fee silsilatin tharAAuhasabAAoona thiraAAan faslukooh.
Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him."
Innahu kana la yu'minu billahialAAatheem.
Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allah, the Most Great,
Wala yahuddu AAalataAAami almiskeen.
Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor.
Falaysa lahu alyawma hahuna hameem.
So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend
Wala taAAamun illamin ghisleen.
Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds;
La ya'kuluhu illa alkhati-oon.
None will eat it except the sinners.
Fala oqsimu bima tubsiroon.
So I swear by what you see
Wama la tubsiroon.
And what you do not see
Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareem.
[That] indeed, the Qur'an is the word of a noble Messenger.
Wama huwa biqawli shaAAirinqaleelan ma tu'minoon.
And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe.
Wala biqawli kahinin qaleelanma tathakkaroon.
Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember.
Tanzeelun min rabbi alAAalameen.
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
Walaw taqawwala AAalayna baAAdaal-aqaweel.
And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings,
Laakhathna minhu bilyameen.
We would have seized him by the right hand;
Thumma laqataAAna minhualwateen.
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.
Fama minkum min ahadin AAanhu hajizeen.
And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him.
Wa-innahu latathkiratun lilmuttaqeen.
And indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder for the righteous.
Wa-inna lanaAAlamu anna minkum mukaththibeen.
And indeed, We know that among you are deniers.
Wa-innahu lahasratun AAala alkafireen.
And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers.
Wa-innahu lahaqqu alyaqeen.
And indeed, it is the truth of certainty.
Fasabbih bismi rabbika alAAatheem.
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
